Kiwi Sport

LI: To get fit so I can jump over the pole.

Today at kiwi sport we played a game called “Valleys and Volcanoes”. In that game we were put into two teams. I was valleys. We had to flip the cones over from volcanoes to valleys. So if I flipped over a volcano it would have to land upside down. Volcanoes will have the cones upright. Next we learned how to do high jumps so we can jump over the pole. We had to jump sideways using the “Scissor Kick”. When we finished practising we did high jumps sideways using the scissor kick. When we did we had to go to the other side so we can do it with both legs. We also had to do leg to arm, so if I was doing right leg it would mean right arm to right leg.

I learned by listening to Andy and following what she says. It was also really fun practising the scissor kick since I was new to it.

Kiwi Can

LI: To listen to Miss Latoya at kiwi and show respect, participation, and teamwork.

Today I went to kiwi can and played two games. The two games was “The Hand Circle” and “Bip Bop Bounce”. The circle is a game where you have to put you hand over the person's hand next to you. Then when a person stomps their hand on the ground the hnd next to them has to stomp and then the next and so far and so forth. Bip bop bounce is a game where the person in the middle has to point to someone. The person that they pointed to has to say “Bang” before they say “Bounce”. If you say bang before they said bip or bop you are out.

I learned by listening to Miss Latoya and trying to stay concentrated. It was really fun at kiwi can.

Hauora

LI: Hauora in action.

I learned about the four walls of hauora. The four walls are taha wairua, taha hinengaro, taha whanau, taha tinana. Taha wairua means spiritual well being. Taha hinengaro means mental and emotional well being. Taha whanau mean social well being. Taha tinana means physical well being.

I learned by making a google slide and making my own wall. My wall was taha wairua spiritual well being.

For and Against

LI: Having a point of view and constructing an argument.

I learned some things at school is good and some things isn’t. The things that shouldn’t be at school is wearing mufti for the rest of school days. I think that we shouldn’t always where mufti at school because if we have a new visitor coming then they won’t know what school we are representing. We also had to do this as a group but halved. Three was “Against” and four was “For it”. I was “Against”

I learned by making a document with my group and then writing why I think technology should not be at school. This was a hypothetical speech so it was made up.

Possum Poster

LI: To identify the main ideas in a text.

Today I did a poster on possums. It was really fun doing it. Possums can be really dangerous and it can really hurt a lot if you were bit. Some possums can go out hunting in the daytime, but most possums stay in their huts in the daytime. This is because their eyes are small so the sun can affect its eyes.

I learned by making a google draw and getting a image of a possum. Then putting information on it.

Shapes with faces, vertices, and edges.

LI: Make, name and describe polygons and other plane shapes.

Today I did shapes but with faces, vertices, and edges. This work got me a bit confused but I still managed to complete it. Faces means the face of a shape. So let’s say if I had a cube, that will have four faces. Vertices is the corner of a shape. So again using a cube it will have eight vertices. Edges are the parts where the faces and vertices meet.

I learned by making a google draw and taking a picture of two shapes. I took a photo of a cube and a sphere. Then I had to say how much faces, vertices, and edges it has.

Raz-Kids

LI: To stay focused and try to to read all the books on raz kids to lever up.

I learned that raz kids is an awesome reading game that can really encourage you to read bigger books like chapter books. It can also help you with words you don’t know and you want to know the meaning of.

I learned by reading all the books on raz kids and then moving up to higher leveled books which is bigger with more words.

Tables Conga

LI: To do my time tables up to nine in tables conga

Today I played a game called tables conga. It's a game where there is numbers scattered around the map. You have to get the correct number which is the answer to whatever time table you are doing. For example if i’m doing the seven time table then the first number I would want to get is seven of course then fourteen then twenty one, and so far and so forth. You have to do all that while there are conga viruses roaming around the map. Try not to bump into them or game over. There are more spawning each minute so be carefull and try to get the numbers quickly.

I learned by going on the class sight and clicking “Can do’s” then I chose the maths can do and went on tables conga. I got new time tables by scrolling down so I can choose a new time table.

Commenting

LI: To go around and blog on people's blogs to see if they made a mistake or not.

Today I commented on Lukah’s blog. He blogged about “Tables Conga”. He did a really good job on it so that’s why I commented.

I learned by going on the class sight and clicked the link which will take me to his blog posts. Then I see which one looks interesting to comment on.

Keyboarding Drills

LI: To use the right fingers on the right keys so I can trust myself to look at the screen instead of the keyboard.

I learnt that if you do the keyboarding drills correctly with the right fingers on the right key then you will be able to look at the screen instead of your keyboard. That happens because you used the right finger on the keys and you practised doing it over and over again. This will mean that your fingers are very well trained for your keyboard.

I learned by filling out the spaces i’m suppose to fill out and then doing it again but with the right fingers on the keys. Then one more time but looking at the screen instead of the keyboard.

Fact or Opinion

LI: To separate fact from opinion.

Today I did a fact or opinion worksheet. It was a fact or opinion worksheet for the mystery men movie clip. It was basically comparing what was true there and what wasn’t.

I learned by opening the google draw on the class sight by clicking the link. Then filling out the page. It was really interesting to do a fact or opinion for the mystery men, despite the fact I didn’t know them.

Keyboarding Drills

LI: To use the right fingers on the right keys so I don’t have to look at the keyboard.

I learned that if you do the keyboarding drills with the right fingers then you will be able to look at the screen instead of the keyboard.

I learned by using the right fingers on the right keys so I don’t have to look at the keyboard just the screen.

Raz-Kids

LI: To stay focused and read all the books in Raz-Kids so I can move on to other books.

I learned that raz kids is an awesome reading game. This game can encourage you to read bigger books like chapter books. It can also help you with words you don’t know and you want to know the meaning of.

I learned by staying focused and trying my best to read all the books so I can move onto higher leveled books and bigger books in raz kids.

Commenting

LI: To go around and comment on people's work to see if they made a mistake or not and to describe their work if it's good or bad.

Today I commented on Xavier’s blog post. His blog post was about his maths work on fractions. I also used a question, motivational sentence, and helpful advice.

I learned by going on the class sight and clicking on his Link on his profile. Then look to see if he had made any mistakes so I can give him helpful advice on what he needs to fix.

Tables Conga

LI: To stay focused on the time tables and move on to other time tables on tables conga.

I learned that tables conga is an awesome maths game that can really help you out on your times tables. Tables conga is a game where there is numbers scattered around the map, you have to try to get the correct number which is the answer to whichever times table you are doing, you have to do that while there is conga viruses around the map, if you touch them then game over.

I learned by staying focused on tables conga and moving on to other times table.

Raz-Kids

LI: To read all the books in raz kids and move on to higher leveled books.

I learned that raz kids is an awesome reading game that can really help you with words you don’t know and words you want to know the meaning of.

I learned by staying focused on reading the books on raz kids and moving on to higher books.

Energy Snack Ad

LI: To Create our own advertising.

We learned to make an Advertisement and was an energy snack.

We made a ad about the energy snack we made. The ad had to be at least a minute long. We worked in our normal writing group so it was easy to get done. We first had to do the work on a sheet of paper then we had to do it digital on our chrome. Doing the work together as a group was really fun but also challenging for us. We had to make a basket out of paper so it can hold the energy snack.

Poster to be Prime Minister

LI: To identify how people are being influenced.

Today I made a poster about me being Prime Minister. It was kind of difficult to write about myself to be Prime Minister because we didn’t need to write a lot. It was fun doing the poster anyways.

I first needed to put a picture of myself on the google draw and then next to it put a simple sentence of me being Prime Minister and why.

Kiwi Can

LI: To use the kiwi can rules normally and use my respect, confidence, and self management.

Today at kiwi can we played a game called “Bing Bong Bounce” it was a very fun game. The aim of the game was if Miss Latioa said “Bounce” then you have to sit down. If you said bang before Miss Latioa said “Bounce” then you are safe.

We also played a game where we had four teams, each team was given a name and they had to try to make a kiwi can motto. Our team's name was “Keep It Real” and our kiwi can motto was where we put our hand against our chest making a “X” and then doing a one arm dab.

NZ Maths Week

LI: To stay concentrated and try to answer all the questions correctly.

Today I did maths week. It is a very helpful math game because whenever you get a question wrong it will tell you the answer and you can learn from your mistakes.

I learned by staying focused and trying my best to get all the questions right in all Junior Junior, Junior, and Senior. I didn't do that great on “Senior” because it was hard. Junior wasn't as hard but the questions were totally different.

Fact Or Opinion

LI: To separate fact from opinion.

Today I did a worksheet about “Mouse For Sale” using fact or opinion. A fact is something that is true and you have proof or evidence in front of you. Opinion is something that is not true and you have no proof or evidence in front of you.

I learned by clicking on the google draw link on the class sight. I also had to work with a buddy to do this so it was easy to get done. There weren’t too many facts in there but me and my buddy looked at the video and thought of what facts there could be.

Tuesday 15 August 2017

Raz Kids

LI: To stay focused on raz kids and read all the books so I can move onto higher leveled books.

I learned that raz kids is an awesome reading game that can really encourage you to read chapter books. It can also help you a lot with words you don’t understand or words you really want to know the meaning of.

I learned by staying focused on reading all the books that’s in raz kids and then moving on to higher leveled books.

Commenting

LI: To comment on other people’s blog using a greeting, motivational sentence, a question, and helpful advice.

Today I commented on Xavier’s blog post. He explained in the blog post what he did at kiwi sport. He did a lot of interesting things so that’s why I commented on his blog post. I first had to read the blog post then comment about what he need to fix up or if his sentences make sense.

I learned by looking through what he had blogged about and choosing which one I wanted to comment on.

Keyboarding Drills

LI: To do my keyboarding drills properly and use the right fingers to do it.

I learned that if you do your keyboarding drills with the right fingers you will be able to use the keys without looking at them and just looking at the screen.

It can be a bit tricky trying to use the right fingers on the right keys but soon you will get the hang of it. If you do the keyboarding drills level three and you know where to put your fingers on which key then it will be very easy for you, do to the fact that you don’t have to look at the keyboard and you just concentrate on the screen.

Tables Conga

LI: To stay focused and to do my time tables on tables conga by order.

I learned that tables conga is an awesome time table game for people that want to learn their time table. Tables conga is a game where you have to find the correct numbers that go in order of which ever time table you chose. For example if I chose the 7 time table then I would have to go in the order of how the normal 7 time table go’s. Like 7, then 14, then 21 and so far and so forth. You can also choose what kind of time table you want to go on by scrolling down the page. If you do so then you will be able to choose what kind of time table you want to do.

I learned by playing tables conga a lot and memorising the times table I know.

Keeping Ourselves Safe Poster.

LI: To express feelings appropriately.

Today I made a poster about keeping ourselves safe. I did this piece of work with a partner so it was easy to do. It was sort of difficult to write simple sentences when me and my partner had a lot to write about.

I learned by thinking about things that you will need to make sure not to do online, outside talking with someone you don’t know, talking with a stranger online you don’t know, and don’t tell anyone your personal advice.

Kiwi Can

LI: to stay positive, participate in a game, listen, and have fun.

Today I went to kiwi can. At kiwi can we played three games. One was a selfie game, the second was a game where we had to put papers with different feeling written on them in order. Then the third was a question game where we were asked questions. One of the questions were “There is an electric boat with steam running behind it, with way is the steam going?” the answer was “There is no steam because it is an electric boat.” electric boats don’t have steam. The selfie game was a game where your whole team has to go to the middle and try to take a selfie of the feeling they were given. It was a lot of fun. Then we had a game where there were papers scattered around the room. We had to pick up the paper and lay them down in order from bad to good.

At kiwi can I learned that being respectful, being positive, and helping others can really help you to be more of a role model.

Advert

We are learning to be able to identify what makes an effective advert.

I did an advert about five ads, one is Subway, the second is Mitre 10, the third is Coca Cola, the fourth is Mobile Broadband, and the fifth is McDonalds. I had to do them all with a buddy, and we also had to fill in a lot of questions.

I had to pick my favourite advert and blog about it. We had to finish all five though. My favourite advert was Subway because it made sense with every answer me and my partner did.

Tuesday 8 August 2017

Keyboarding Drills

LI: to do my keyboarding drills and use the right fingers on the keyboard.

I learned that if you do the keyboarding drills with the right fingers then you can be faster at typing on the keyboard. Keyboarding drills are very helpful if it is your first time using a computer or you are not great with the keyboard and you are slow at typing.

I learned that if you master the keyboarding drills you won’t have to look at the keyboard you will just have to look at the screen.

Adverts

LI: to be able to identify what makes an effective advert.

I had to watch, read and listen to five ads, one is subway, the second is mitre 10, the third is coca cola, the fourth is mobile broadband, and the fifth is mcdonalds. I had to view them all with a buddy, we also had to fill out a lot of questions.

Me and my buddy had to pick our favourite advert once we finished the advert and blog about why we liked it. My favourite advert was the subway one so that was the one I blogged about. My buddy’s favourite advert was the mobile broadband one. The whole thing about this advert work is that the questions are trying to tell me either I like the advert and I want to buy what’s on the ad, or I don’t like the advert and I don’t want to buy what’s on the ad.

Mix And Match

LI: to put fractions in order.

I did a mix and match activity for maths. I had to put the fractions in order from smallest to biggest. It was a mix and match activity where I had to match the fractions to the symbol. There was a hint and it was “There are only two groups” the hint meant that when you see a fraction like 2\4 it is like 2+2=4. 2+2 equals to an even number which is four. You can call an even fraction an “Equivalent fraction”.

I also learned that there is a denominator which is under the “Out of”. The denominator stands for how many groups of a fraction you need. For example if it is the number five then you will need five groups of a fraction. There is also a numerator that is on top of the “Out of” the numerator means what the fraction is. For example if it was a number one and the denominator was a number five then it will be a “1\5”.

Duck Overboard

LI: to identify the main ideas in a text.

I read an article on Duck Overboard. Then I had to do a piece of work on it. I had to fill in the questions at the bottom of the page and summarize the text in 25 words or less.

I learned that if you find a rubber ducky floating anywhere on the sea and you give it to the US you will receive 100$.

Summarising the Main Idea

L.I. To look for keywords and phrases

Summarising.jpg
Good readers notice key words.  Here are some clues to help you find key words:
  • Key words are directly connected to the topic
  • Key words are often repeated in the title and the text
  • A key word helps you to remember an important idea
Use this table to help you summarise the main ideas in a text in your own words.  It is important that you use your own words to show your understanding and to avoid plagiarism.  If you don’t know what some words mean, look them up.

Keywords from the title
Overboard.

Keywords from sub headings
Sientest.
Plastic.
New words I need to look up
Adrift.
Beachcomber.
Read the text and record key words/phrases that answer these questions:

What? A ship was struck by lightning and lots and lots of rubber duckies were lost.
Where? Hong Kong, Australia, United States, South America, North America, Tacoma, and Japan.
When? January 1992.
Who? Mr. Ebbesmeyer.
Why? A storm hit a ship and lots of rubber ducks were lost.
How? A bolt of storm struck a ship and rubber bath toys were lost.

Now using the words you wrote down summarise the text in 25 words or less.
A ship was struck by a bolt of lightning and many rubber bath toys were lost. Many floated in their own ways to Australia, and Japan.
