Waka Ama

Today I read a story about Waka Ama. I read this story as an activity for The Summer Learning Journey. Until today people use waka still! Well something amazing did happen and that includes wakas. It is a sport race called Waka Ama. Waka Ama is where you have a waka and you are in a team of two. You have to try to make it to the end of the race.

  1. Hey Aden!

It's awesome that even though they are not still used for transport like they did in the past, they still use the Waka today for fun events like Waka Ama. Do you think you would like to be in a Waka Ama race one day??

Great to see you have been posting about the Summer Learning Journey. How are you going?

Have you ever been in a waka before? Maybe seen one?
I went to the Te Papa Museum when I lived in Wellington and they had a few Wakas on display. They were beautiful! Such incredibly details cravings on the side. They looked really heavy too, so I wonder how fast you can paddle them in water. What do you reckon there top speed would be?

I can’t wait to read more of your fantastic SLJ posts! Feel free to ask any questions if you need.

    Cadence 😊
