Kiwi Sport

L.I To learn how to use a bat and run around the basis. 

Today I went to kiwi sport. At kiwi sport Alison was there to teach us and give us a reminder on what we do when we get to a base and a reminder on how to use a bat: We needed to make sure our arms were shoulder with apart, small knuckles aligned, right hand on left hand (If you are left handed then you put it on top of your right hand), bat on right shoulder (Again if left handed put it on the left shoulder). We then went on played scatter ball, if you don't know what scatter ball is then this is it. There is two balls that you have to hit as a batter, (We hit one ball) then you have run and make sure you touch the basis or else you will have to go back on run on it again. The fielders job is to get the ball and put it on the cone before the batter makes it to home base. It was fun playing the game again but soon we didn't have much time left to do it again, instead we played a game called four corners, (With basis). Four corners is a game where there is four corners for you to pick on which one you want to go on. Then the person in the middle of the four corners points to a corner, if they point to you your out. You also have to be quiet and sneaky. On round two of four corners we had to walk backwards to the base, it was pretty tricky but I had fun with it. On round three we had to walk like a animal of our choice, I picked an elephant but I had to make sure I didn't make the sound effects. It was really fun to be an elephant and many different animals such as: Crabs, Giraffes, Chickens and many more. Soon we sadly ran out of time but we had fun regardless. 

I learned by following the skills on how to use a bat and how to run around the base.

Self-Monitoring

L.I To understand something we don't understand by using a various amount of strategy's.

Today I did my reading which was self-monitoring from last week. We first had to read a article about Amelia Earhart. Amelia Earhart was an aviator that had a achievement, which was to fly around the whole world, unfortunately she didn't stop at a place that was was suppose to and was lost. Though she was lost people found bones of her. After we read the article we had to get into a pair of two and we had a google doc to work on. On the google doc we had to put the words or places we didn't know in a box and how we got the answer, then we had to explain what it means. 

I learned by first reading the kiwi kids news article about Amelia Earhart then by getting into a buddy. Then by filling out the google doc. 

Kiwi Can

L.I To make sure I step away from bullies or let them calm down if they are angry.

Today I went to kiwi can. At kiwi can we first talked about our new topic which was conflict resolution. We didn't really learn much about our new topic but we did go straight into our energizer. For our energizer we played the game from last week which was called twenty one. If you don't know how to play it then this is how you do it. You have one ball and each time someone passes it to you it counts as a number, you can also hold the ball for two seconds to by time, you still count while the ball is being held. We then went onto our lesson of the day which is about bulling or some kind of bulling. We put our hands up to answer possibilities to make someone happy. We also gave answers on how we get angry and why we do. We then learned that if someone is very angry and is swinging their arms at you then just let them calm down. After that we went onto a game called guess the emotions. The four people in the front of our lines had to stand up and face us, they were not allowed to look at the whiteboard because the emotion was going to be written up there. Meanwhile everyone else had to act out the emotion and the front people had to guess. If they guess it right then they get a point. The game was really fun and I enjoyed acting out the emotions. We then went onto our GKQ. Our buzzer was to put our hands on our shoulders and say kuboo. 

Cybersmart

L.I To put work in the right folders and make sure our drive is clean.

Today I learned where to file my DLO's that I recently made. I also learned that we need to make sure our drive is clean so when people look at it, they won't see all your DLO's floating around. It's also good to make sure you have a clean drive because if you have almost a full storage of DLO's then your computer can't process much and it will be running slower.  

I learned by first making a list of all the folders that we could possibly have and then discussing on where to file the DLO's. After that we filed everything away and trashed the thing that we don't use.

Duffy Assembly

L.I To read to get better achievements later on in the future. 

Today we went to Duffy Assembly to meet a few guests that was going to share how they got into different things. We first sang the Duffy song before we started. Then the two guests walked up onto the stage and started to greet us. Soon they started telling us about how they got engaged in doing things like sports. The two guests name were Taylor and Matt. Taylor told us about how she got into BMX riding. Taylor first got engaged into BMX riding when she was inside her familiys shed playing around with the stuff in ther when she soon spotted a news paper with her faimily in it, she wondered why they were in there but when she read it she soon knew her mum was a BMX rider. When she saw that her mum was a BMX rider she wanted to be one to. When she was six years old she won her first T-Shirt for racing in the BMX for kids. Later on she stopped riding BMX becasue she got a very bad injury o her back. When Taylor was soon an adult she started riding in the BMX cars. There she won her first trophy. Taylor now is currently a interviewer and a commentator. Matt is now currently a rugby player and he plays for the blues. Matt had the same story as Taylor. He got into rugby by reading sport books, he played for the blues by reading books about the blues. Matt soon got his own blues jersey. Taylor and Matt's future job or hobby is going to be a loyaler and a PE Teacher.

Team Motto

Today me and my group made motto for the minute to win it games that we are going to do for this week. There is ten activities in total so me and my group are pretty excited. We had to make motto's from different company's and think of one of our own. We also had to stay in the same group from last week. 

I learned by staying in the same groups and then making a team motto that represents the flags representing our group. Also by getting some motto's from different company's.

Kiwi Sport

L.I To learn how to run around the basis and use a bat properly.

Today at kiwi sport we played the same game as last week, scatter ball. We first had to remember the batting skills which are: Shoulder with a apart, knuckles aligned, right hand on top of the left hand (left hand on top of right if left handed), and bat on right shoulder (again if left handed bat on left shoulder). This time when we played scatter ball the batters had to actually use the bat how they are suppose to, if they miss three or four times then they can hit it from the tee. The batters had to try to hit the ball while it was thrown to them. They could also stop on the base if the ball almost got to the home base. For the fielders there was a backstop that they had to throw it straight to. After scatter ball we played a game where we had to get in circle and we all had to have our hands on our knees. The thrower could also fake throw to make the other person flinch, if they flinch they are out. If they miss the ball they also are out.

I learned by using the batting skills and learning how to bat properly by hitting the ball when its thrown to me.

Figurative Language

L.I To use figurative language and what means.

Today I did my writing which was to first watch a short movie called pigeon impossible. We then ha to go and work on a slide. On the slide was the first event of what happened in the short clip using figurative language. We had to highlight all the figurative language there was in a certain color, the figurative language's are: Idiom, personification, metaphor, simile, and alliteration. We then had to write the second event but in figurative language.

I learned by first watching the short clip of pigeon impossible. Then by getting on the slide and highlighting the figurative language there are. Then by writing the second event in figurative language.

Keyboard Shortcuts

L.I To use keyboard shortcuts as a quick way around things. 

Today I used keyboard shortcuts. We got a slide to use so we can test out how good we are with our keyboard shortcuts. We had to get into pair and that pair has to be someone from LS1 from last year and a room five from last year. We both had eight slides to work on. 

I learned by first making a list of what shortcuts there are and what they do. Next by getting a buddy from room five last year and doing all the slides that tested if we could use the shortcuts properly. 

Kiwi Can

L.I To be a good role model and leader.

Today we went to kiwi can to play some games and to learn about new things. We first got into three lines and got into our energizer. Our energizer was to try to guess what is on the whiteboard. The people in the front of the line had to stand up and face our group, then Ms Lily wrote a answer on the whiteboard. The rest of the group had to answer only yes or no questions. The game was really fun and I enjoyed it. We then went onto our lesson of the day, our lesson of the day was being a role model and how we be one. We gave answer and examples of them and I learned that being a role model can really give you a confidence boost. We then went onto our activity which was where we had a ball and that ball was a bomb, it was also a counting ball. Our goal was to pass it around in a circle and if we reached the number twenty one and someone has the ball then they are out. We had fun with these activities and games, I also learned that being a role model is being a good person. 

I learned by learning on how to become a good role model and the role models I should look up to.

Self-Monitoring

L.I To understand a meaning of a text by ourselves. 

Today I made a poster about Self-Monitoring showing what it is, why we use it, and how we use it. We had to first read a book called water worries. We had to buddy up to read this book so we can both use Self-Monitoring and if our buddy was struggling we could ask our buddy if they needed help. Self-Monitoring is when we are stuck on a word or sentence and we want to figure it out, we can figure it out by using our prior knowledge. That's Monitoring, the self means you do it by yourself.

I learned by first reading the actual book with a buddy and then talking about what Self-Monitoring is. Then making a poster about it. 

Place Value

L.I To show how to use place value and one for ten and ten for one.

Today I made a presentation on place value and the strategy one for ten and ten for one. One for ten and ten for one is a very useful strategy for place value even when you are stuck. It's easy to use too. I made a presentation on how to use it and what place value is.

I learned by making a presentation and showing people how to use one for ten and ten for one along with what place value is.

Tables Conga

LI: To do all my can dos.

I played this game called “Tables Conga” on my can dos. It’s a game where there is numbers scattered around the map. You have to collect the numbers exactly like how the time tables go and try not to get caught by the Conga virus. For an example if I am doing the 7 time tables then I have to get the numbers 7, 14, 21, 28, and so far and so forth. It’s an awesome game and very fun.  

Tables Conga can go up till the 9 times table and once you finished the times table you can go and proceed to the next times table. If you want you can switch your times tables by scrolling down and picking what kind of times table you want to do.Screenshot 2017-08-07 at 6.59.37 PM.png

Strategies

L.I Addition and subtraction are inversely related.

Today I did my maths which was to make different strategies on how to answer a math question. We had to use Lukah's or Mr O's strategy four the questions, also a number line. We first discussed how to do Lukah's strategy and Mr O's strategy properly.

I learned by discussing on how to use Lukah's strategy and Mr O's strategy. 

Team Logo Creation

L.I To make a team logo for the minute to win it games.

Today me and my group of five made a logo creation for the minute to win it games that is going to be happening at our school. We are going to be doing games that are similar to minute to win it. If you don't know what minute to win it is, it is a channel that often appears on television. It is a channel where people try to win a game of some type in a minute, if they win they win millions. We had to make a logo representing our team, we did country flags around ours to represent where each one of us are from. 

I learned by getting into a group of five and making a logo creation for the minute to win it games. 

Kiwisport

L.I To practice softball skills.

Today we went to kiwi sport to play some more scatter ball. We played scatter ball but it was a bit different, we had a glove and a base. The glove was for the fielders and the base was for the batters to run around. The batter could also stop on the base if they know that the balls are going to be returned, they can start running again when the other batter hits the balls. We also learned how to catch and throw the ball properly from fielding. For the first round we had to hit two balls but in the second we had to hit one ball.

I learned by fielding and learning how to catch and throw properly by practicing my softball skills.

Art Week Retell

L.I To retell something that happened to us by using TREE.

Today I did my writing which was to retell what happened in art week. In art week we had to go through a various amount steps to do our art which turned out to look amazing! We had to retell art week by using TREE which stands for: title, reveal events, and ending. Title means the title of your recount or story so people know what it is about. Reveal means the begging of the recount or story, like revealing what you did but not saying what actually happened. The events means that you are now saying what you did. Ending is your personal reflection which is judging weather you liked what you did or not.

I learned by using TREE to retell art intensive week. 

Date: 12th March Monday.
Writing purpose: Personal Recount.
Writing focus: Sentence Structure.
Art Week
Last week we did art which was inspired by the amazing pop artist Andy Warhol. We had to go through a various amount of steps in order to make the pop art, it looked amazing when it was finished. It was somewhat medium level to do it but was fun to do so. We also had to make a poster on a google draw about Andy Warhol with most the information about him.

First we had to make a poster about Andy Warhol with all the information about him. We had to work in a group of three and we used google search to do our research. We had to get images and attribute them, then we had to make sure everything was aligned and we had a margin. We needed to do quite a few things but it was pretty fun doing it on the way.

We then went onto our actual art for this week, we first got a photocopy of ourselves which was in black and white. We then had to get a blue pen and trace over all the black that was there.

Next we had to turn the photocopied paper face the back so we can sketch out our whole face with pencil, we had to make sure that we were going sideways so we can cover up most of the white. We had to do the; ears, eyes, mouth and eyebrows. We could also put it on a window if we wanted to see if we did a good job at sketching.

We then had to go and get our photocopied paper taped to a blank piece of A4 Paper. For this part we had to get and different coloured pen and trace over the photocopied paper once again, only this time we had to press hard and be careful with the lines. We had to make sure we pressed hard enough for the pen to transfer through as pencil.

After we had our face transferred onto the A4 paper we had to color it in with pastel. We had to make sure we had our photocopied paper somewhere near us so we know where to color, we had to make sure we colored in all the white that was there. We had to do the black parts with paint.

We then moved on to painting. For painting we had to make sure that we didn’t put too much paint because then our paintbrush will be dried up with paint, if we took that much then we had to take it in a plot where there was no paint. We had to paint in all the black bits that was on our photocopied paper and the parts we didn’t color in with the pastel.

For our final step we had to get a vivid and trace over all the transferred lines. If our vivid got dirty with pastel we had to get it of by putting it on a piece of paper to color it in. We did the vivid so it will stand out a bit more to other people and it will look good from afar.

Art intensive week was really fun and I enjoyed following all the steps. My most favorite part was painting, the paint covered up most of the space and it was fun to do knowing that i'm nearly finished. I also liked doing the pastel because again it covered of the space and was easy to use like moving it around, that was a breeze because the pastel was efficient. It was overall fun and I also learned that Andy Warhol was a master pop artist. This work also surprised myself of how good it looks and I did by myself, it surprised me and i'm proud that I could actually do things like this. I can do this again if I wanted by following these four easy steps.

Predictions

L.I To predict what will happen next in the book by looking at title and images from the front cover. 

Today I made a prediction for the book called "Picking Up Puha". (Puha is a vegetable that are mostly used in soups and are popular in some countries). We needed to make a prediction by looking at the title and the pictures that are shown in the front cover. We had to fill out the reading work that was set up for us which had questions that are saying like what our predictions are and what we think it is.

I learned by filling out the work that was setup for us, I also learned that predicting is very fun to do. I also learned that predicting is a reading strategy that I mostly use for some books that I read. I also learned that you are using your prior knowledge while predicting.

Kiwi Can

L.I To never give up and keep trying. 

Today we went to kiwi can. At kiwi can we played a few games. We first went right into our energizer which was called rock, paper, scissors. In rock, paper, scissors we had to some different things from the original rock paper scissors game, we had to get into partners and if each one of the partners win then the other partner has to go behind them and yell out the partners name. If another partner meets your partner then they have to play and whoever loses has to join the line, person with the longest line with everyone in there wins. The game was pretty fun and I liked that it was different from the original game. We then talked about giving things a go even if your shy, if you do give it a go then you'll learn a lot of things. We also talked about never giving up, you need to make sure that when your giving things a go you never give up. This will also give you a confidence boost. We then went onto our activity which was to try to act out a action to our group. This was to show how much confidence we have. The aim of the game was your group to first guess what you are trying to act. This game was really fun to do and I enjoyed my time. We then went onto our GKQ (General Knowledge Questions). Our buzzer was putting our hands on our head and saying our name, we got asked questions like what is the topic of kiwi can and what was our topic before, both answers were leadership and fairness and fair play.

I learned that I shouldn't give up and give things a try even though I am a bit shy, though I can learn new things which will be very helpful later on in life.

Art Work

L.I To use the steps of making simple pop art to make pop art. 

Today I did pop art. We had to use four easy simple steps to making pop art. We first had a photocopy of ourselves so we can trace all the dark bits. Once we traced all of them we had to sketch our photocopied face on the back of the page, we had to make sure the lines were fat. Next we had our photocopied face taped to a blank A4 Paper. We then had to get a red pen and trace over the blue very hard so it will transfer to the blank A4 Paper. Then once our face was transferred to the A4 paper we had to color in the white parts that was shown in our photocopied face. After that we had to paint the parts that you didn't color in with the pastel. Then for our final and last step we had to trace over all the penciled lines with vivid. Once we were done with all our art work, it really stood out and looked like actual pop art.

I learned by following the four simple and easy steps for pop art. It looked really good with the paint, the pastel, and the vivid to make it stand out.

Kiwi Sport

L.I To learn how to pitch and run around the basis. 

Today we went to kiwi sport to learn how to run around the basis and how to pitch. We first started off with running around the basis. We had to get into two teams and line up, we then had to run around the mats that was placed on the ground, we had to make sure we step on them to count as a full run. It was team versus team so it was challenging but very fun. We then went onto pitching, we had to stand behind the cones with the balls on it and buddy up. We soon used a technique which was a L shape with our arms then making a K with our leg up. We did throws and it was pretty fun.  

I learned by practicing to pitch and running around the basis. 

Prior Knowledge

L.I To activate prior knowledge about a topic before reading what is a census? 

Today I did my reading which was to understand what prior knowledge means and what it is. Prior knowledge means using the knowledge about what we already know about to learn about something you want to learn about. We had to gather up the knowledge we already know and put it into something that we wanted to know about, that is the census. The census is a online or paper survey that people do if their house is damp or they want to fix something up in their house. The census also is a thing where they keep track of how many New Zealanders there are and how many new ones there are. It is also illegal to not do the census, if you don't then you will get fined for about 50$ or 500$.


I learned by making a google draw then explaining what prior knowledge is and what the census is.



Little Boat Commenting

L.I To identify the features of a recount. 

Today I did my writing work which was to comment on my own little boat recount. I had to make sure I had the writing features in my recount which is: First Person (Which means how much "I" I have used), Past Tense (Which are words like "Been, or Later"), and lastly Time Connectives (Which means words that have "Ed" at the end of them. Not all words with "Ed" are time connectives). We also had to do this with a partner too. We had to give each other a rating and comments to see if they using the writing features. 

I learned by getting a buddy to work with then commenting on my work to see if I used the writing features. 

Andy Warhol

L.I To get into a group of three and search for the information about the amazing pop artist Andy Warhol.

Today we did researching about the amazing pop artist Andy Warhol. Andy Warhol was a very popular pop artist. He always made pop art and it turned out to be amazing! Sadly he died in 1982 at the age of 58 by a irregular heartbeat. We first had to get into a group of three to do this work. We had to make a google draw about Andy Warhol and share it to our group members. Then we had to start researching. 

I learned by getting into a group of three and then making a google draw. Then finding information about Andy Warhol.

Kiwi Can

L.I To learn about leadership. 

Today I went to kiwi can. At kiwi can we got a new topic, the new topic was leadership and our theme was positive relationships. We went on into our energizer which was a game called hammer. To play this game we had to get into a partner. Then the partners had to make first and put their hand on top of the other partners hand. Miss Lily will call out either up, down, or hammer. If she says down then if the partners hand is on top of the other partners hand then they will have to go down. Same with up but going up instead of down. Hammer means the hand that's on top of the other partners hand, they have to hit it. It was pretty fun and I had fun. Next we went to our activity which was similar to follow the leader. The leaders had to do an action and show the other person the action only three times. Then we had to tap the other persons shoulder and show them the action. The game was pretty fun and I enjoyed it. We then went on to play a game called master. Master is a game similar to GKQ but this time we had to go in a circle. If the master comes to you then you have to stand up and answer the question given. 

I learned by following leadership and having fun. Also by trying my hardest.

Maths Problem

L.I To make a DLO about rounding numbers up to the nearest ten. 

Today I made a DLO about rounding numbers up to the nearest ten. We also learned that you can use this maths technique to solve a question. For example 9+6, to solve this questions I have to round up the nine to ten. So I have to borrow one number from six to give to nine so it can become 10. Leaving the six with five. Now that we have ten and five we have to add them together and we got the answer. 

I learned by making a google draw then looking at the questions I had to answer by using the technique round it up to the nearest ten.

Keyboarding Drills

L.I To learn how to put my fingers on the right keys.

Today I did my keyboarding drills. In my keyboarding drills I had a bunch of words that I had copy by putting my fingers on the right keys. I soon kept on doing my keyboarding drills so I don't have to look at the keyboard just the screen.

I learned by putting my fingers on the right keys and soon being able to not look at my keyboard just my screen.


Whats Inside A Blog Post?

L.I To show other people how to make a blog post. 

Today I am going to show you how to make a blog post. In a blog post you need to make sure you have explained what you did and how you did it. If you don't explain how you did it then people won't understand it very well. If you don't explain what you did then people won't know what you did. You need to make sure you have a title too because if you don't then people won't know what you did. You also have to make sure you explain why you did it. 


QAR Questions

L.I To check what the understanding of a text by using QAR.

Today I did my reading work which was to write four questions about niuean sports day. We first had to read a book called niuean sports day, we had to read the whole book about then make a summary about what we read. We then had to answer four questions about the book and what question types they are. The questions types are: Right There, Think and Search, On My Own, and Arthur and Me. We used QAR to see if we have the understanding of a text. 

I learned by reading the book niuean sports day and then having a discussion with my group. Then creating a google doc to put on the four questions show the four question types: Right There, Think and Search, On My Own, and Arthur and Me.

Kiwisport


L.I To practice using a bat.

Today I went to kiwi sport to learn how to use a bat. To use a bat you need to make sure that you have your hands touching and your big and small knuckles aligned together, then your legs shoulder with apart, you then have to put your hand your most comfortable with on top of your other hand. We also played a game called scatter ball. Scatter ball is a game where there is two teams, one team is the batting team and the other is the fielding team. The batting team has a bat and they have to hit the ball as far as they can, once they have hit the two balls they have to run inside of the cones that the fielding team stands behind. The fielding team has to make sure they stand behind a cone and they can not move until both balls are hitten. This game was really fun and I enjoyed it.  

I learned by playing a game called scatter ball and practicing using a bat.
