Maui and The Giant Fish

Today I read about Maui and the giant fish he caught. I read this story as an activity for the Summer Learning Journey. The story was about Maui wanting to go fishing with his older brothers but the brother would always come up with an excuse for Maui not going fishing with them. Maui soon got angry and had a plan to go fishing with his brothers. He put himself in a hull that the brothers use for fishing. The next time when the brothers went out to fish they got the hull and wondered why it was so heavy. When they took it to the sea they never caught a single fish! Soon Maui jumped out with surprise. The brothers were startled and they were angry about Maui. Maui spoke up and said "I have come to fish as my ancestor  Murirangawhenua said I will be a great fishermen. Let your lines loose and you will catch more fish than before. The brothers went on and let their lines loose and caught much more fish than they ever have. Once their waka was full Maui went on and said "My turn to fish now!" The brothers laughed and laughed as Maui pulled out his fishing line. "Ha, your using that?" The brother laughed and laughed. Maui asked "Can I get some bait?" The brothers laughed and didn't answer. Maui got angry and punched his nose. His nose bled and he used that as bait. He threw his fishing line then something immediately caught on their hook. It was really heavy and the brothers huddled up together in fright. Maui pulled out his fishing line and... There it was! The giant fish his grandma told him about. His grandma would know that Maui will one day catch this big fish. The fish now has been known as Maui and The Giant Fish.

Fun Fact: The Giant fish now had is the island for the north of New Zealand.

Fun Fact: Maui's brothers were bullies to him and they didn't really like him.

Fun Fact: Maui was not really an adult but was allowed to fish

  3. Hi Aden
Great job on completing this activity, I like how you chose to write down what happened in detail too. I have a question though, how did you think Maui felt when he first lifted the fish?

  4. Hello Aden
Great job on finishing your first summer learning journey activity. Your facts about Maui are excellent. Maui was really sneaky - hiding in the bottom of the boat. Keep up the awesome work Aden.
