It's All In A Day's Work

In the 1800s, most Maori lived in a village called "Pa." Each village had many buildings where people cooked pataka. (Pataka means where you store food like: fish and birds. There is also a place where trapdoors are placed in the floor so nothing comes and eats it, like Pacific rats.)

The wharepuni doesn't match my home because my home is not a sleeping house or a principal house of a village.

Waka Ama

Today I read a story about Waka Ama. I read this story as an activity for The Summer Learning Journey. Until today people use waka still! Well something amazing did happen and that includes wakas. It is a sport race called Waka Ama. Waka Ama is where you have a waka and you are in a team of two. You have to try to make it to the end of the race.

Setting Sail

Today I read about a story called Setting Sail. I read the story as an activity for the Summer Learning Journey. I read the story of the first people to come to New Zealand. They were really brave people and were the first people to come to New Zealand. They were brave because they left their original homes and traveled to New Zealand.

If I would leave my home and travel to a different country I would be very nervous and scared. I might lose my way and never make it back home.

Maui and The Giant Fish

Today I read about Maui and the giant fish he caught. I read this story as an activity for the Summer Learning Journey. The story was about Maui wanting to go fishing with his older brothers but the brother would always come up with an excuse for Maui not going fishing with them. Maui soon got angry and had a plan to go fishing with his brothers. He put himself in a hull that the brothers use for fishing. The next time when the brothers went out to fish they got the hull and wondered why it was so heavy. When they took it to the sea they never caught a single fish! Soon Maui jumped out with surprise. The brothers were startled and they were angry about Maui. Maui spoke up and said "I have come to fish as my ancestor  Murirangawhenua said I will be a great fishermen. Let your lines loose and you will catch more fish than before. The brothers went on and let their lines loose and caught much more fish than they ever have. Once their waka was full Maui went on and said "My turn to fish now!" The brothers laughed and laughed as Maui pulled out his fishing line. "Ha, your using that?" The brother laughed and laughed. Maui asked "Can I get some bait?" The brothers laughed and didn't answer. Maui got angry and punched his nose. His nose bled and he used that as bait. He threw his fishing line then something immediately caught on their hook. It was really heavy and the brothers huddled up together in fright. Maui pulled out his fishing line and... There it was! The giant fish his grandma told him about. His grandma would know that Maui will one day catch this big fish. The fish now has been known as Maui and The Giant Fish.

Fun Fact: The Giant fish now had is the island for the north of New Zealand.

Fun Fact: Maui's brothers were bullies to him and they didn't really like him.

Fun Fact: Maui was not really an adult but was allowed to fish

In raz kidz you also get stars from reading books. You get 50 stars from reading a book. There are also questions you can answer after the book. If you get all those questions correct on the first try you get 150 stars. Second try then you get 50 stars. You can use the stars to customize your robot and put accessories on it.

I learned by reading books and getting stars to give my robot awesome clothes. Along with trying to get to a higher level.

Tables Conga

LI: To do all my can dos.

I played this game called “Tables Conga” on my can dos. It’s a game where there is numbers scattered around the map. You have to collect the numbers exactly like how the time tables go and try not to get caught by the Conga virus. For an example if I am doing the 7 time tables then I have to get the numbers 7, 14, 21, 28, and so far and so forth. It’s an awesome game and very fun.

Tables Conga can go up till the 9 times table and once you finished the times table you can go and proceed to the next times table. If you want you can switch your times tables by scrolling down and picking what kind of times table you want to do.Screenshot 2017-08-07 at 6.59.37 PM.png

Today at kiwi sport it was the last session of badminton with Kevin. We just played games for kiwi sport today. First was the warm up game which was octopus. I did good and enjoyed my time. Next Kevin taught us to do a trick called truck. It was a trick where you turn your racket with having the shuttle falling. Next we played one ins and outs and two ins and outs. One ins and outs it where you are versing some else by your own. It is a 1v1. I didn't really do good but I enjoyed my time. Then we played two ins and outs. Two ins and outs it a 2v2 with you and your buddy versing someone else that in a buddy. I did good but not that good, though I enjoyed my time.

Commenting

LI: To go and comment on other people's blogs showing good advice and helpful motivation.

Today I commented on Xavier's blog post. His blog post was about four questions, the blog post was for his maths.

I learned by going on the class site and going onto "Blogs." Then I went onto his profile and went onto the four questions blog post for his maths.

The Night Before Christmas

LI: To understand how to deliver a speech.

Today for my writing I did a story about the night before Christmas. In this story we had to retell the story of the night before Christmas. I made my own story of the Christmas story.

I learned by making a google doc then writing about the poem but in my own words.

Vlog About The Zombie Apocalypse

LI: To make generalisations about the impact of a group in our community.

Today for my inquiry I did a vlog about the zombie apocalypse. I first had to make a script of me going to record the vlog. I had to first choose one of the services. I could choose: goverment services, health services, or food services. I chose food services. So that means I had to make a script of food services are gone! I needed to explain how life is like this without food services and vlog about it.

I learned by making a script then vlogging of how life is without food.

Keyboarding Drills

LI: To use the right fingers one the right keys so I don’t have to look at the keyboard.

I learned that if you do the keyboarding drills with the right fingers then you will be able to look at the screen instead of the keyboard.

I learned by using the right fingers on the right keys so I don’t have to look at the keyboard just the screen.

News Broadcast

LI: To use a range of comprehension strategies to go deeper into a text.

Today for my reading me and my group made a news broadcast. We did this by first getting into a group of six then making a google slide. Once we did we had to choose a category out of: National, International, Sports, Weather, Business, and Entertainment. Prototec

LI: To develop instant recall of addition facts.

Today for my maths I played a game called prototec. Prototec is a math game where you pick a stage and solve math questions on there. The higher you go the harder it gets. Once you have finished all the questions you go to the bottom and then press mark, when you marked it, it will make sure you got your questions correct. If you didn't get all the questions questions correct then it will cross out your answer and put the right answer on. The stages I did was stage 5, 4, and 3-2. In stage five it was hard. The questions that was challenging for me in stage five was the the division questions. In stage four I got confused with grouping within 10&20. In stage 2-3 it was pretty easy and nothing was hard and confusing. Year 4's was allowed to do any stage, year 5's had to do stage 4 or higher, year 6's had to do stage 5 or higher.

I learned by going and searching up prototec and then choosing a stage. I chose stage 5 then 4 and then 2-3.

P.B.S News

LI: To use a range of comprehension strategies to go deeper into a text.

This week on Thursday I have been working on my reading for the Must Do Task List. People were split up into four different groups and had to create a newspaper article on a topic out of business, entertainment, sports, international news and national news. I worked on entertainment with Sakina. Jayden did business, Chris and Joseph did sports, Aden did international and Peter did national news. We had to search for websites that had relevant information to our choice of topic, would be interesting to read and the date for the article that we rewrote was between a certain time.

I learned by getting into a group. Then making a google slide about the topics: Business, Entertainment, Sports, International News, and National News.

I chose the categories: Police, Pilot, and Electrician. When we finished picking our three categories we had to research about and how they interact with each other and your whanau.

I learned by making a google slide then picking three categories. Then researching about them and how they interact with each other and with our whanau.

Kiwi Sport

LI: To do more badminton.

Today at kiwi sport we did badminton. At badminton we first played a warm up game. The warm up game was stuck in the mud. There was two taggers and everyone else had to get to one side to the other. When we finished playing stuck in the mud Kevin told us to come and sit down. He then told us a new skill. The new skill was the backhand lift. When he told us the new skill he then let us go and buddy up so we can try out the backhand lift. One person got the shuttle and the other got the racket, we then went to look for somewhere in the hall for us to try out the backhand lift. I was catching and my partner was doing the backhand lift.is Then we played a game. The game was one in's and out's. It is a game where there is one person from a pair versing another person from a different pair, and the first one to one wins. Then we played two in's and out's. Two player in's and out's  is like one player in's and out's, but with you and your buddy together, the first one to two wins.

I learned by getting a buddy then playing the games and having fun.

Kiwi Can

LI: To listen and follow instructions at kiwi can.

Today at kiwi can one of our teachers named Miss Lilly told us that this week for kiwi can was going to be a fun week. So we can play games outside and inside. At kiwi can the first game we played was shark attack. We played "Shark Attack" in a different way than normal. We played it where there was two team and six or four people from the team has to come up. one of the six or four will be the runners and one of the other six or four people from the other team with be tagging you. The runners have hoops to stay in, but only for five seconds. While the tagger has a ball and has to pass it to their other teammates, whichever runner is close by the tagger yells out "Here!!" We then played a different game which was "Hit Down The Cone." We had to get into a circle and sit down while there was a person in the middle standing up with a cone on the ground. The person in the middle has to defend the cone while everyone else try's to knock it down. The people trying to knock down the cone can either pass it or hit by themselves. The people trying to hit it can also n sit down and roll it, not standing up on their knees. The next game was like "Tower Doge Ball" but this time we had to knock down each others towers. We had to make towers with our tam and have a bucket on top of them. We went outside and built it. Then we started the game. Only five players were allowed to play and the rest watched, when the round was over the nest people joined in and it went on and on until the morning tea bell rang. For the last game our team won
3-0.

I learned by listening and try my best to help my best to help my team.

Commenting On Other Peoples Four Questions

LI: Develop a google doc that has 4 questions similar to those from our Gloss Testing.

Today for my maths I had to comment on someones maths work they did with their partner. If the questions doesn't make sense then we put the blog post in the commenting column. If their questions did make sense then we can put it as our maths work, but we have to make sure we solve he questions and put how we solved the questions in the blog post.

I learned by going on the must do task list and clicking on Andrew's four questions blog post. Then going and commenting on his work.

Today for my inquiry I did a google slide about government services. We had to do with a partner. We got into a pair by making a group of six, then choosing who we want to be with. We then had to choose one of the topics from these: Politicians, Councils, Mayors, Libraries, Ministry for Primary Industries, and Welfare. Our topics were Mayors and Welfare. We had to research about the topics for some facts.

I learned by working with my partner and choosing one of the topics from: Politicians, Councils, Mayors, Libraries, Ministry for Primary Industries, Welfare. Also going and researching about our topics.

Four Questions

Conduct investigations using the statistical enquiry cycle: posing and answering questions; gathering, sorting, and displaying category and whole-number data; communicating findings based on the data.

Today for my maths I did a google drawing with four questions on it. I did this piece of work with a buddy so we can finish the work together and quicker. We had to use images to make sure the questions make sense for the people that reads it.

I learned by working with a buddy and creating a google draw with images to make sure if the questions actually makes sense.
