In the 1800s, most Maori lived in a village called "Pa." Each village had many buildings where people cooked pataka. (Pataka means where you store food like: fish and birds. There is also a place where trapdoors are placed in the floor so nothing comes and eats it, like Pacific rats.)
The wharepuni doesn't match my home because my home is not a sleeping house or a principal house of a village.
